Yes. Vietnamobile publishes eSIM activation instructions, VNPT describes obtaining a VinaPhone eSIM, and MobiFone describes a tourist eSIM through Hi Vietnam. Vietnamobile sends the installation QR code by email after successful identity verification.
What documents and checks might the operator request?
Vietnamobile’s instructions include identity-document images, including a passport, a portrait, OTP/signature confirmation and video verification. Viettel’s initial tourist portal asks for a passport image, portrait and email. Vietnamobile provides video verification daily from 07:00 to 21:00. Approval depends on successful identity verification.
How can a passport holder convert a physical VinaPhone SIM to eSIM?
VNPT DigiShop describes assisted setup at a shop with a valid passport, device and access to the current SIM when converting an existing number. The illustrated MyVNPT online process requires Vietnamese citizen-ID images, face verification and OTP: it is not the same passport-based procedure. Successful conversion disables the old physical SIM.
That depends on the plan, not the eSIM format. MobiFone’s Hi Vietnam announcement describes domestic-call benefits, so a local tourist eSIM need not be data-only. Voice and SMS allowances belong to the selected plan. Having an eSIM does not itself guarantee a particular bank’s verification codes.
What is required for setup and continued access during SIM conversion?
VNPT specifies a compatible device, stable Wi-Fi or hotspot and identity/OTP checks; model and regional-variant differences matter. Converting an existing number requires access to the active SIM until verification is complete. Package duration depends on the selected plan and is distinct from number validity.
