FEWER UNNECESSARY TRIPS

Country-specific practical tips

🇵🇭 Track an application using the receipt number

The Bureau of Immigration publishes decision lists. Search the application number on the official receipt, not just your surname. A matching entry does not replace document collection or BI implementation instructions.

🇲🇾 Ask Employment Pass questions at MYXpats Open Day

The virtual company session covers EP, PVP and RPT questions. Register through ESD; one employee per company and limited places. The next listed date is 14 October 2026. This is a consultation, not expedited approval.

🇺🇾 In Canelones, check the local migration office

On 3 September, Canelones renewed its migration-service agreement for two years. Ciudad de la Costa has a Centro Cívico office; check the schedule and available procedures for mobile MigraMóvil visits. A capital-city trip may be unnecessary, but confirm the appointment and service first.

PETS & FLIGHTS

Can you “register a pet as a guide dog”?

Not simply to take a flight. An assistance dog performs trained tasks for a person with a disability; a guide dog is one type. Ordinary pets and emotional-support animals do not automatically qualify. An online certificate cannot replace training and eligibility.

Assistance dog

Confirm recognition and forms with the operating carrier on each segment. US routes may require a DOT transport form and, on flights of eight hours or more, a relief attestation. Recognised assistance dogs travel free in the EU under applicable rules; notify at least 48 hours ahead.

Ordinary pet

Check the carrier’s available option: cabin, hold or cargo. Confirm combined carrier-and-animal weight, carrier dimensions, breed restrictions and a reserved pet place before buying a non-refundable ticket.

Airline and connections matter

Turkish Airlines asks for arrangements at least 48 hours ahead; its psychiatric-service-dog policy specifically describes Istanbul–US sectors, while connections may follow ordinary pet rules. THAI also requests at least 48 hours’ notice and training evidence; ESA-acceptance statements on its pages conflict with DOT rules, so we do not treat ESA acceptance as verified.

Entry and transit veterinary documents are separate requirements: assistance status does not remove them.

Taking a pet to the EU: start months ahead

01

Microchip first

Implant or verify the microchip before rabies vaccination. A primary vaccination generally requires at least a 21-day wait.

02

If a titre test is required

For departure from outside the exemption list: sample at least 30 days after primary vaccination; use a designated laboratory and obtain at least 0.5 IU/ml.

03

90 days before certification

Current detailed Commission guidance requires at least 90 days between sampling and health-certificate issuance. Do not reduce this to “three months before the flight”: the certificate date matters too.

Requirements depend on departure country, vaccination history and applicable exceptions. EU rules do not replace carrier conditions. European Commission · 2026/135 · applies from 22 April 2026

What can save a return trip

A power of attorney for specific actions

Before leaving, list property, banking, document collection and representation tasks. Agree scope, term and accepted form with a notary and recipient. Do not grant unrestricted property powers unnecessarily.

Ask for winter bills

Request the coldest and hottest month’s bills, each bedroom’s heating type and any shared-system operating rules. Inspect damp behind furniture and check noise in the evening.

Separate spending from deposits

A refundable deposit is not monthly living cost, but the cash is needed upfront. Compare annual insurance as premium/12, while including the full payment in starting cash.
