eSIM & SIM abroad: choosing and activating a connection
Operator-sourced guidance on documents, device compatibility, activation, local numbers and validity. Start with your destination.
Which eSIM should you choose for a move?
Data-only serves an internet-only connection. Local calls require a voice-enabled plan: eSIM alone does not include them. Thailand has tourist eSIMs from AIS and True; Vietnam has eSIMs from Vietnamobile, VinaPhone and MobiFone. Registration and conditions for each destination are below.
Two guides with original sources. Not an operator ranking or a guaranteed-price catalogue.
Vietnam SIM and eSIM: documents, setup and number conditions
Local Vietnam eSIMs: passport checks, compatibility, conversion and calls, with practical answers sourced from Vietnamobile, Viettel, VNPT and MobiFone.
