Temporary residence for paid activity
Work-based temporary residence is normally requested from abroad. Do not plan an automatic tourist-to-work conversion. Temporary-residence dependants may work.

Documents for this route
- Passport with 1-year validity, photo, contract/offer and employer financial evidence.
- Police certificates: verify required countries and the up-to-60-day issue window before filing.
- Apostille/legalization; required official translation for documents not in Spanish or English.
- Dependents: relationship evidence; current rules allow dependent work, but status must be obtained.
What to do before departure
Order police certificates from the required countries. Check whether validity is measured from issue, entry or filing. Prepare birth, marriage and name-change records; check apostille or consular legalization, treaty exemptions and translation requirements. An apostille and a translation are different procedures.
Leave a tailored power of attorney with a trusted person: specify banks, property, document collection and representation. Confirm each institution will accept it, any substitution authority and expiry. Do not hand over banking passwords.
