Visa-free entry and residence are separate decisions
Visa-free stay, residence and work authorization are separate questions. Check current employment rules and residence grounds, including 2026 changes.
Check funds and insurance for the actual status
Documents for this route
- For residence, prepare passport, lawful-stay evidence and your grounds: employment, family, study or another eligible route.
- After 2026 changes, separately establish work authorization. Sole-trader registration and small-business tax status do not resolve this.
- Keep foreign contracts and evidence of clients' location: legislation includes exemptions for some non-resident services.
What to do before departure
Order police certificates from the required countries. Check whether validity is measured from issue, entry or filing. Prepare birth, marriage and name-change records; check apostille or consular legalization, treaty exemptions and translation requirements. An apostille and a translation are different procedures.
Leave a tailored power of attorney with a trusted person: specify banks, property, document collection and representation. Confirm each institution will accept it, any substitution authority and expiry. Do not hand over banking passwords.
Full pre-departure checklistPartner, children & pets
Check school language and accreditation. In Batumi, consider seasonality, damp and summer rent changes.
Check each family member's residence, work and study rights separately. Children may need custody documents, the other parent's consent specifically to residence, school records and vaccination history. Pet preparation depends on departure, transit, airline and destination veterinary rules.
