Can I get a local tourist eSIM in Thailand?
AIS and True offer tourist eSIMs, with registration required before use. True specifies passport registration. Tourist registration and generic forms for Thai subscribers are different processes.
The NBTC announcement limits tourist SIM use to 60 days; topping up alone does not extend that limit. Continuing requires registration or identity verification again. True also specifies the packaged validity, capped at 60 days, and passport re-identification. This is tourist SIM validity, not a promise of 60 days of data in every package.
How does an activation deadline differ from package and number validity?
AIS separately describes activation within 60 days after registration and identity re-confirmation to continue beyond 60 days after activation. The data package has its own selected-offer duration. Adding balance does not replace identity verification or automatically renew a tourist number.
No: the detailed terms for True’s 10-day data-only product allow incoming voice, SMS and MMS, but exclude ordinary outgoing calls/messages and VoWiFi. Other products can differ. These terms do not guarantee delivery of a particular bank’s verification codes.
AIS requires a compatible device and stable Wi-Fi for installation; True also highlights supported network frequencies. Generic myAIS instructions contain Thai identity-card fields. AIS publishes a separate passport-based tourist procedure; identity re-confirmation is also available at AIS shops.
