Does DTV allow five uninterrupted years in Thailand?
No. Five years is the visa validity; each entry allows up to 180 days. One extension of up to 180 days may be requested per entry. Departure is required after 180 + 180 days; extension is not automatic.
Which documents does a remote worker need for DTV?
Core evidence includes a passport, photograph, bank funds and a contract, employment certificate or professional portfolio. Jurisdiction matters: London’s checklist, updated 8 September 2026, requires proof of permanent residence within its jurisdiction and a police certificate issued within six months. This is not a universal checklist for every consulate.
Does a family need separate preparation for DTV?
DTV has a family category for a spouse and children under 20. Prepare passports and marriage, birth or adoption documents. Los Angeles also lists parental documents for minors and a notarised court order for sole custody. Translation and certification depend on the filing location: do not apply the US checklist to another country.
What is needed for employment with a Thai company?
Treat local employment separately from DTV. For ordinary Non-B employment, London’s embassy lists a Thai employer’s letter, company registration documents and WP3 pre-approval; an existing employee renewing the visa supplies a work permit instead of WP3. Some occupations and applicant categories have different requirements.

Separate guides cover verified differences. Your purpose and application location also matter.
DTV for eligible remote work and dependent family
Compare DTV, family, employment and retirement routes. DTV has eligibility, financial and per-stay limits; it does not replace authorization for local employment.
Evidence of at least THB500,000; application fees depend on location
Documents for this route
- Passport, photograph and proof of your current location for the application.
- Employment contract/employer letter or professional portfolio for remote work and freelancing.
- Financial evidence of THB500,000 and its origin; statement-period requirements are consulate-specific.
- Spouse: marriage certificate; children under 20: birth certificates and relationship evidence. School status is a separate check.
What to do before departure
Order police certificates from the required countries. Check whether validity is measured from issue, entry or filing. Prepare birth, marriage and name-change records; check apostille or consular legalization, treaty exemptions and translation requirements. An apostille and a translation are different procedures.
Leave a tailored power of attorney with a trusted person: specify banks, property, document collection and representation. Confirm each institution will accept it, any substitution authority and expiry. Do not hand over banking passwords.

In Bangkok and Phuket, check school buses, admission fees and waiting lists. In Chiang Mai, account for seasonal air pollution.
Check each family member's residence, work and study rights separately. Children may need custody documents, the other parent's consent specifically to residence, school records and vaccination history. Pet preparation depends on departure, transit, airline and destination veterinary rules.
