Practical answers before moving

Armenia: what goes into a family living budget?

Example for two adults and a seven-year-old: a two-bedroom rental, private school and public transport. These are editorial assumptions, not verified prices. Deposits, relocation, vehicle purchase and taxes are excluded.

  • Yerevan: 3,742 USD/month: housing 1,035 USD, groceries 728 USD, utilities 156 USD, education 650 USD. The remainder covers transport, insurance, leisure and reserve.
  • Gyumri: 2,835 USD/month: housing 552 USD, groceries 598 USD, utilities 169 USD, education 450 USD. The remainder covers transport, insurance, leisure and reserve.

Which cities should I compare before moving?

Before transferring money, verify the right to let the property and record the terms in writing.

  • Yerevan: The capital has a metro, buses and more extensive medical services than elsewhere in the country. The metro does not cover every district, so housing location shapes daily journeys.
  • Gyumri: Armenia’s second-largest city has a historic centre, 19th-century architecture and craft workshops. A railway connects it to Yerevan. Specialist medical care may require a trip to the capital.

What should families with children consider in this country?

Foreign parents may apply for first-grade enrolment. The child must turn six by 31 December of the enrolment year. Applications are free; child details and a public-services number are required. Email sign-in is available without YesEm. This does not guarantee a place at any school or Russian-language teaching.
