Practical answers before moving

Morocco: what goes into a family living budget?

Example for two adults and a seven-year-old: a two-bedroom rental, private school and public transport. These are editorial assumptions, not verified prices. Deposits, relocation, vehicle purchase and taxes are excluded.

  • Marrakesh: 3,281 USD/month: housing 897 USD, groceries 598 USD, utilities 130 USD, education 500 USD. The remainder covers transport, insurance, leisure and reserve.
  • Casablanca: 3,528 USD/month: housing 966 USD, groceries 650 USD, utilities 143 USD, education 550 USD. The remainder covers transport, insurance, leisure and reserve.

Which cities should I compare before moving?

Ordinary residential leases exceeding 30 days require a written agreement and a condition report.

  • Marrakesh: The medina’s riads and souks differ from modern Guéliz and Hivernage. The district matters more than a single city-wide description.
  • Casablanca: An Atlantic business metropolis: office districts and the Aïn Diab waterfront rather than a quiet resort.

What should families with children consider in this country?

UNHCR Morocco states that public schools are accessible regardless of nationality or immigration status; primary and secondary enrolment is handled directly by schools. Public tuition is free, but allow separately for supplies, food and transport. Financial support described by UNHCR belongs to its refugee programme, not to every foreign household.
